You can now find my teas in the Victoria and the Vancouver Whole Foods Stores, Goodlife Juice in Nanaimo and Dak Rotisserie in Victoria. Yippee! Ice teas! This summer I am experimenting with some new iced tea recipes and would love your opinions. These will be available try at some of the special events and craft fairs listed on the event calendar on my website. I tried them at the 2018 Yoga Conference and they were a big hit. PLANTING PLANTING PLANTING!!! I have been planting my seeds like crazy. This is Deer Hill Farm's first spring season and there is so much work to be done. Have you been complaining about our Victoria rain? I know, me too.... but let's take a moment to say "thank you" to our very rainy winters for this lovely abundance of Spring greenery that it brings. Herbs like red clover, lemon balm, chickweed, dandelion and stinging nettles will be popping up all around us to offer an array of healthy edible spring greens. The genius of nature doesn't stop there! Mother Nature also helps us out in the medicinal kitchen as it just so happens that these are all health-supporting, nourishing herbs that our bodies need during the change of the season. Other good news, they grow all around you! Send me an email if you are interested in learning more about where and how to harvest these local wilds and incorporating them into your diet. Spring renewal! Spring Cleansing! Spring Detox! Are you feeling sluggish from winter hibernating? Maybe looking to get your body on the right track and break some bad habits? Spring is the perfect time to support our liver, kidneys, and lymphatic systems. After a winter of stagnation and fighting off the sniffles, we need to get things moving. Shake our bodies around and start a new healthy routine. Exercise, diet and good sleep patterns can help with stress, weight-loss and overall health. As well, Spring can be a time of seasonal allergies, and recouping from other stressors on the body. When crafting any herbal and self-care protocol, it’s important to keep in mind the season does affect your body. So it might be a good idea to check in with your plan seasonally and adjust your herbal remedies accordingly. Below are some simple and effective herbal ideas support your body this spring, brought to you by our herbalists Lily Fawn. From the wild to your home kitchen Back To Top Spring Recipes Happy Cooking! By Lily Fawn / Earth's Herbal ProductsLILY’S STEAMED NETTLE DISH 4 cups of fresh stinging nettle leaves, chopped 2-3 cloves of garlic minced 3 Tablespoons sesame oil 1 Tablespoon lemon juice 1 Pinch of sea salt 1 pinch of chili flakes 1 Tablespoon roasted sesame seeds 1 Tablespoon pine nuts 1⁄4 cup of sun dried tomatoes (optional) In a large frying pan add a ½ cup of water to your Nettles. Put the lid on the pan and let it steam. Once the Nettles have wilted and turned a darker colour, strain any remaining water from the pan and add all other ingredients. Gently simmer until the garlic is cooked and everything has started to mix flavours. Serves 3 Spring Cleansing Combo - Easy To Find Spring Herbs Stinging Nettles, Dandelion Leaf, Red Clover Blossoms TO MAKE: SUN / MOON TEA Find a clean jar. Any size, your tea will last you 3-4 days in the fridge so look for a large jar. Once your herbs are properly identified, pick them fresh, wash them and fill the jar full of your delicious flowers and leaves. You can also use dried herbs to make this tea if that is all you have on hand. Heat up enough water to fill the container to just before boiling and then pour it over the herbs. Leave the lid off and secure a piece of muslin or cheesecloth to cover the opening. Place your mixture in the window and let sit in direct sun for an hour for SUN TEA. Or, put it under direct moonlight for 2-3 hours for MOON TEA. Strain, drink and enjoy the power of Mother Nature!!! NettlesJust as allergy season starts, Stinging Nettles pops up all around to rescue you! Nettles help reduce inflammation and immune boosting properties. Nettles are also high in nutrients and a great superfood. DandelionNot only does it grow abundantly in your yard but dandelion is great for the skin, blood and digestion. Best known as one of natures great liver detox herbs. Red Clover BlossomsRed Clover has long been known as a blood purifier and a supportive tonic for women's reproductive organs. When used topically, it is great for eczema as psoriasis. Not only that red clover is a tasty and beautiful weed that you can find in the wild grasses. Chickweed Breakfast Omelet 2 free range eggs 1 cup chopped fresh Chickweed leaves and stems. 1 1/2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese salt and pepper to taste 1/4 teaspoon onion powder 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg In a bowl, beat the eggs fluffy, and stir in the chickweed and Parmesan cheese. Season with onion powder, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. In a small skillet coated with cooking spray over medium heat, cook the egg mixture about 3 minutes, until partially set.
